New Year, New You!

January is full of resolutions, and laser hair removal is the perfect place to start to make your life easier in the new year! And if you start your laser hair removal journey in January, by the summer you could ditching your razor in place of smooth skin, that lasts all year round.

Laser hair removal is an easy way to permanently reduce and remove hair growth. It is relatively quick, with minimal pain and little to no down time. The feeling of the laser is usually described as a quick snapping of an elastic band on the skin, which is tolerable to most, however, you are able to use a numbing cream prior to treating sensitive areas (like the Brazilian) to make the treatment as comfortable and easy as possible.

Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in your hair follicle, making the follicle dormant and unable to grow hair. Depending on the hair type, colour, and location of hair, it can take roughly 6 to 10 sessions to fully complete your treatment course. The reason multiple treatments are required is because your hair grows in stages, and we treat the hair in the active stage of hair growth while using laser. You want to space your appointments between 4 to 8 weeks apart, depending on the area, to ensure an efficient treatment to give you the best result each time. Usually, you can expect around a 10-20% reduction after each session. Your technician will guide you through your treatment plan to maximize your results.

Before your appointment, you want to shave the area being treated 12 to 24 hours prior. You want a close shave, as any hair growth will diminish your results. Hair that is not shaven will be singed by the laser, keeping the energy of the laser from penetrating into your hair follicle and working effectively. You want to avoid any methods of hair removal other than shaving before and during your treatment, as tweezing or waxing will remove the follicle and hinder your results. You want to stay out of the sun during your treatment, as sun exposure and sun tans (even self or spray tans) give you a risk of complications.

Following treatment you may experience some redness, and minor swelling of your hair follicles, which for most people, will only last a few hours. You want to stay away from hot showers or baths, hot tubs and saunas, exercise, as well as deodorant, the day you have the treatment done to avoid any irritation. The sun is also not your friend after laser, and you want to make sure you are wearing your SPF for at least 2 weeks after your treatment to avoid complications like pigmentation changes of the area treated.

Winter is the perfect time to start laser hair removal as it’s easy to avoid sun exposure, and by the time the sun comes out, you won’t need to worry about shaving before you head to the beach, or packing a razor for vacation. We will book you in for a consultation where we will go over the process with you, give you an idea of sessions needed, a timeline for your treatment, as well as go over pre and post care, and answer any questions you may have for us. At your consultation we will also perform a test patch with the laser on the area being treated, giving you a good idea of what to expect for sensation, and any reactions you may have.

The biggest regret we hear from people doing laser hair removal, is how they wished they had done it sooner. Start your year off right by saying goodbye to razor burn, ingrown hairs, the extra effort and time of trying to shave everything in the shower, 5 o’clock shadows, and long periods with lots of hair growth between waxing sessions, and say hello to the smoothest skin you’ll ever have. Now is the perfect time!
